Generator Hire for a Wedding: Full Guide

A marquee or garden wedding often has no mains power, or not nearly enough. Here's how to power the day properly and keep the generator seen and never heard.

Generator Hire for a Wedding: Full Guide

What actually needs power

Run through the day: catering (fridges, warmers, urns, coffee), lighting (festoon, uplighting, dance floor), the band or DJ and AV, and heaters if it's cool. Caterers and bands can usually give you their power needs, tell us those and we'll size it.

Keep it quiet and out of sight

The power should be invisible. A quiet inverter generator placed away from the marquee, screened and cabled in neatly, means guests never know it's there. More on this in our noise guide.

Size it with headroom

Weddings are not the day to run flat out. We size with headroom so a surprise load, an extra heater, a bigger band rig, does not drop the power mid-reception. Bigger receptions with heavy electric catering may want the 60 kVA diesel.

Let us run it

On operated hire we deliver, set up, cable, manage fuel and stay contactable, so you and your caterer never think about it. See wedding hire or ask for a quote.

FAQs

What size generator for a wedding?

It depends on catering and lighting. Many marquees run well on a quiet 7 kVA inverter. Larger receptions with electric ovens and big lighting may need the 60 kVA diesel. Send us the caterer and band power needs and we'll size it.

Will guests hear the generator?

Not if it's done right. A quiet inverter placed away from the marquee and cabled in is barely noticeable. Keeping it off the day is exactly what we plan for.
