Petrol vs Diesel Generator Hire: Which One?
Both do the same basic job, but they suit very different work. Here's the honest difference so you hire the right one instead of paying for power you won't use.
Petrol inverter generators
Small, light and very quiet. Our Honda inverters produce clean, stable power that's safe for sensitive gear like laptops, EFTPOS and AV. They sip fuel at low load and are perfect for stalls, coffee carts, weddings, film and home backup. If it needs to be quiet and portable, this is your unit.
Diesel generators
Built for grunt and long hours. A diesel like our Denyo 60 kVA delivers three-phase power, runs efficiently under heavy load and is happy running all day on a construction site or a big event. For anything above about 10 kVA, diesel is the sensible choice.
Quick comparison
- Noise: petrol inverters win for quiet. Big diesels are canopied and silent for their size, but a small inverter is quieter still.
- Running cost: diesel is more efficient under heavy, sustained load. For light loads, a small petrol inverter is cheaper to run.
- Power: petrol covers 2 kVA to 7 kVA here; diesel covers the big three-phase jobs up to 60 kVA in-house, and more through our network.

FAQs
Is diesel or petrol cheaper to run?
For heavy, all-day loads diesel is more economical. For light or occasional use a small petrol inverter costs less to run and is quieter. Match the fuel to the load.
Which is better for a home or event?
A quiet petrol inverter suits most homes, weddings and market stalls. Save diesel for construction, three-phase gear and large events.
